This is page one of the Who, the What, and the Where of Peter Manis. They only give a preview of my life my daily entries in my blog will give you more details.
I was born on August 22nd, 1982 and I have lived in Virginia for most of my life. During 11th and 12th grade I went to a private school in Vermont and shortly after graduation moved to Cocoa, Florida, which is near Orlando, Cocoa Beach, and Daytona Beach. In 2005 I moved to San Diego, California to spend more time with a good friend of mine and begin a career in the mortgage industry. Unfortunately I made some bad choices in the companies I worked for and things took a turn for the worse. On top of everything else the people I wanted to be around more wanted me around less almost from the day I got there. I loved California, but felt I needed to come back to Virginia for a while. A lot of lessons were learned with my last move and a lot of friends were lost for reasons I am still unaware of, but that is life, right?
On a brighter side I have spent most of my life being good at 98% of the things I have done. While I am proud of that I’m not really trying to brag, because I would trade most of it to be great at just one of them. I have written a lot of code and have “learned” about 10 programming languages. In reality I only ever use about 4 of them and the others I have to look in a manual as I code. I guess getting the basic understanding of the language is the key part, learning all the functions is just memorizing words. So I guess you could say I have learned the other languages too.
I have always loved outdoor activities. As a child I was in Cub/Boy Scouts and did very well. Camping, backpacking, climbing, fishing, caving, hunting are about as hardcore as I got with outdoor activities. I played golf and tennis for a while, and found interest in a number of other small non-team sports, but I enjoyed playing lacrosse and snowboarding much more than any other sport.
When I decided to go into the military I spent a lot of time in the gym and bulked up, but as soon as I arrived in CA I was unable to find the time to go to the gym on a regular basis. The time I spent getting in shape the first time gave me a great appreciation for fitness and health. Ever since I have tried to get back into a normal routine at the gym and with my eating habits…. I’ll let you know as soon as it happens.
I once heard, regret makes you old and bitterness poisons the people around you, but I’ve gotta tell you its hard not to regret things you have done especially when you can see how much they have changed your life. I think one of my largest regrets was going to California. Not because of any monetary troubles I had, but because I lost the friends that meant the most to me, the friends that I thought I meant something to.
So that is me, from the happy to the sad. I’m sure some will say I should not show any emotion on a blog I will also use to attract potential clients, but honestly do you think they believe I am always happy? Just sitting around having a blast writing out a little code or reformatting a hard drive. I think if anyone knew anything about the life of programmers and those in the IT industry they would know the stress and discouragement they deal with daily which would show they can’t be happy 24/7.
Like I said, that’s me, love it or leave it, but I hope you will take the time to learn more about me. Here are some key facts.
