Machine won’t boot without a monitor

This is a problem I had with the P4 1.4ghz machine I have when I used to run it as a file server until it was plugged into a KVM. Until today I thought the board/bios required a monitor to be attached, but the video card that was in the 1.4 had been moved to another machine and that machine would not boot. The video card was placed back into the 1.4 and replaced it with a 32mb Geforce 2 card and the server will now boot with no problems.
