Dell 1800FP Problems
A lot of traffic comes to my site about the 1800FP that was made by Dell. The post most people arrive at is my post about John from Dell who helped me out huge. This one is to give those of you a couple notes on what options you have.
If this monitor was purchased within 3 years ago call NOW and get a replacement, I received a 1907 since the 1800FP is no longer manufactured. If you are over the warranty period search eBay for “1800FP” and purchase the power supply. They run about $30 dollars and in most cases will fix the problem. It seems there was also a problem with logic board, and I cannot find the information I had about determining which one was the cause. I believe if you have a yellow light constantly it is the logic board, if there are no lights it is the power supply, but with the way the power supplies seem to go out it might be good to have one anyway so if the power supply didn’t fix the problem at least you know you are safe for the future and you can order the LB. The other alternative is to replace the power supply with an LG one that you can get more details about on this post from Ars Technica. I think eBay would be your best bet though.
Good luck.

Hi,
My 1800FP shows no front lights when powered on. I checked the power supply and both 5V and 12V show up fine when measured at the outgoing connector pins. Therefore, replacing the power supply may not work. Any advice will be greaty appreciated. The monitor is 4+ years old so Dell will not replace it.
Thanks.

Sounds like the logic board
These mention the symptoms with each part.
Power Supply
Logic Board
Power Supply Kit
This is what their FAQ says
Q: I have no power or lights on front panel.
A: You can have multiple causes. Your power supply is bad, or your logic board is bad. You must first determine if your power supply has output voltage, usally 5v for your logic board and 12v for your Inverter board. If you have these or similar voltages then your logic board is bad. Your logic board is like a small computer programmed with all the functions of your LCD. If your eeprom or processor is bad the unit will not turn on even if you have power.”

My monitor suddenly started displaying “red snow” such as a tv with poor reception. You are still able to see whats going on well enough to navigate but I was wondering if replacing the logic board is worth the 35-50 dollar gamble since it still may not fix it.

That I don’t know. I really don’t know what the logic board does. If you buy it and it doesn’t work you could always eBay it since the 1800 seems to be causing a lot of people problems.
