Trac on Slack….from source….what fun….

Posted June 14, 2007 at 11:06pm in Computers

I installed Trac on my laptop tonight, and I didn’t pay attention to all of the little things. I don’t remember having to install a few of them in Windows, like Genshi, but I did this time. One really good thing that came out of it was a long time ago I started working with Django and when I installed it on my linux box it went to hell with SQLite. Tonight I found out what the problem was. I kept saying the libsqlite3.so.0 was missing and I found that I needed to make sure the path was in /etc/ld.so.conf, which it was, but after running sudo ldconfig there it worked perfectly. That means when I finish my server this weekend I can make sure I did it right the first time for both Trac and Django. Now I just have to play with Rails to make sure I can get that working without any problems.

I also had problems with neo_sgi.so, I found a couple pages on the internet that mention copying it to your site-packages directory, but I also had to add it to ld.so.conf, I guess restarting might have done it though.

Tommorrow is beCamp and I have a bunch of stuff to do before I go, I’ll throw up a couple posts tomorrow night. I won’t be home until late Saturday so I will post some pictures and posts Sunday.

Slackware on a Laptop

Posted June 14, 2007 at 07:06pm in Computers, Programming

I reinstalled Slackware on my laptop, I needed to install different versions of applications and just wanted to start from scratch. I am now running:

PHP v5.2.3
MySQL v5.0.41
Subversion v1.4.4
Postgres v8.2.4
Apache v2.0.59
Python v2.4.4
Ruby v1.8.6
Scribus v1.3.3.7
Sawmill v7.2.9
Firefox v2.0.0.4
Komodo Edit v4.1.0-27899
KCHMViewer v3.0
KSmoothDock v4.3
YaKuake v2.7.5
SlackIns v3.0
KDE Crystal Diamond 2.5 Slackware Mod
Custom 2.6.17.13 Kernel
IPW2200 Firmware v3.0
Zend Studio v5.5.0
Webmin v1.350

The rest is all stock, other than Wallpapers and some other individual icons. A couple things I ran into that I thought I would share. The ipw2200 firmware needs to go into “/lib/firmware” and in my case the only file I needed was ipw2200-bss.fw. You can get the firmware at the ipw2200 Sourceforge page.

I also had some trouble with power management. I recompiled the kernel, but when I go into suspend I cannot recover from it. If anyone can tell me what is missing I would appreciate it.

The recruiters are calling, the recruiters are calling

Did you pick up on the similarity between the title and chicken little’s favorite saying? It isn’t even close to being bad like if the sky was falling, but it fit. In the past week I have been contacted by two recruiting companies looking to fill some PHP positions. I am always open to offers and willing to speak with anyone willing to speak with me. One recruiter has setup a phone screening with an important company in California and the other recruiter is from Northern Virginia, a place I have wanted to move back to for many years; the California job would be really good though. I looked into a couple apartments close to the California job, not too too bad, it is $1400 for a 1br/1ba, $1700 for a 2br/1ba. I found a house for $3200 a month, and that would be ok since I could get a roomate, but the killer was the $7200 deposit.

I have gotten pretty excited about Northern California, some guys on Bimmer Forums have been giving me advice on places to look for and what things are like. The job would be something I would like and it sounds like it would be in an area I would like.

I do need to do some more editing of my resume, and finally decide on a format. I moved it over to OpenOffice because of its easy PDF export, and I just dislike Office for so many things. The problem was that they did not want it in anything but a Word document, and the conversion did not go well. I take it the layout is good though, I asked him if there was anything he thought I should do to make it better and he said it was great. If anyone is willing to take a look at my resume and tell me what they think might help you can email me at manis[at]digital39[.]com. I would even be willing to pay a corporate HR person to give resume advice, it would have to be a good company though.

Blacklisted Companies

Posted June 14, 2007 at 12:06pm in General

This is a list of companies I plan on no longer doing business with. Some of these reasons are splattered throughout my blog.

Dell

  • All of the previous reasons
  • I spent 6 hours trying to get the 22″ monitor to match colors and never got it to work
  • My monitor was signed for on the 16th and they are telling me it still has not been checked in
  • 13 days after it is received I am still the one that needed to contact Dell to see what the deal was

May 29th, 2007 I received an email after asking what was up that it still had not been checked in even though they signed for it on the 16th. I then sent another email and on the 1st of June, 2007 I was told that my money had been put back on my card. Today, June 14, 2007 I still don’t have my fucking money. I purchased the 22″ monitor on 4/17 so it has taken almost 2 months to get this shit worked out with them. The only thing Dell in my house right now is a 15″ CRT and my 600m Laptop which I am going to try to sell, and when Mike is back in town we will video tape us shooting the shit out of the CRT. Dell is 100% permanently on my forever shit list. This is a BBB complaint in the makings.

FedEx Ground

  • FedEx ground doesn’t come to my house every day and somehow everytime I receive something it is not the day they come
  • They leave packages at the end of my 0.3mi driveway in tall grass

DHL

  • Scheduled a pickup on a Wednesday had my address wrong after I confirmed it. Then they did not show and said they would be here the next day. Did not show. I drove 180 miles (literally) round trip to drop off the package on a Saturday morning. I was promised it would go out that night, it went out Monday instead and arrived the day after it was supposed to.
  • I never received a call that he would not be here Friday, he just showed up Monday morning to pick up my package
