They had a deal going on recently, you could get a 400gb SATA II drive for only $99.99 with free shipping. I ordered it, and they told me that my order was cancelled. I called in that night and placed another order and after dealing with a somewhat worthless person on the phone he said I would recieve confirmation. I did not recieve confirmation and called the next day when I noticed I had 2 $99.99 holds on my account. I found out that my order had been cancelled again, both times after the special had already expired. I also found out that they get authorization and lock funds before they verify any information. That means that for 72 hours your money is not available to you, so if they cancel the order and you only had that amount of money in it, you have to wait 72 hours before you could order again. Luckily I had money in my account to cover the 3rd 99.99 I would have taken out of my available balance. The problem was that my address changed and the way they verify was not working and the correct address was not working either. So they had to have a manager process it and I luckily recieved the sale price. I recieved my package with free shipping and only paid $99.99 when they are now selling them for $189.99. I got an incredible deal, but I feel all of that was a real pain. Until they have a crazy sale like that again I will probably not buy from them, first impressions matter.

The other day I needed to make changes to my mapped drives and it seemed to be a pain more than anything. So I wrote this little script to map the drives on boot. The first portion of the code shows how to map drive. Each line is composed of the MapNetworkDrive command and parameters:
object.MapNetworkDrive LocalDevice, RemoteDevice [,SaveConnection] [,Username] [,Password]
I felt that it would be best to not register the share with windows and make it remap the drives at boot.
Option Explicit
On Error Resume Next
Dim objNetwork
Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "U:","\\SERVER\C", false,"USER","PASS"
objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "V:","\\SERVER\D", false,"USER","PASS"
objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "W:","\\SERVER\E", false,"USER","PASS"
objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "X:","\\SERVER\F", false,"USER","PASS"
objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "Y:","\\SERVER\G", false,"USER","PASS"
objNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "Z:","\\SERVER\H", false,"USER","PASS"
Wscript.Quit
This code should be saved to a seperate file for quick unmapping of network shares
Option Explicit
On Error Resume Next
Dim objNetwork
Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
objNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "U:"
objNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "V:"
objNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "W:"
objNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "X:"
objNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "Y:"
objNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "Z:"
Wscript.Quit
When I added this to startup I used my custom MMC panel and went to the Local Computer Policy \ User Configuration \ Windows Settings \ Scripts (Logon/Logoff) \ and added the location of the vbs script under the Logon scripts. I don’t feel I need to go into a deep explaination about any of this, but if you have questions feel free to contact me.

Searching for a job is one of the more annoying things I have to do. When I don’t hear back within 10 minutes I start to freak out haha. I sent my resume to a local college this morning. I think I would be a great asset to their school and from what I read it would be a great place to work. I have to update my online resumes because I made some last minute changes to the one I mailed.
It is very hard living where I live. I am pretty skilled with a computer, but there aren’t enough businesses in need of a high tech employee for me to find a job worth taking. Keep your fingers crossed for me, I would really appreciate any help I can get.

I recieved my 400gb Seagate SATA II hard drive today. It is formatting right now, and taking too frickin long if you ask me. Unfortunately my server is only SATA I right now, but I use it for storage more than anything else so I don’t need it to move that quick since the network is slower than the hard drive. It partitioned out to 372.61gb. I hate that they say it is 400gb when it always partitions lower. For those that don’t know it is actually (((GB*1,000,000,000)/1024)/1024)/1024 which in the case of a 400gb comes to 372.529gb, so it was very close. With this new drive it brings my server up to about 1tb of storage.
2 x Seagate 120gb SATA I
1 x Maxtor 160gb EIDE
1 x Maxtor 200gb SATA I
1 x Seagate 400gb SATA II
so with that formula that is 931.32gb of storage. I do not use small drive in this machine, otherwise I could throw in 2 x 40gb drives to bring it to 1005.83 gb or 0.982252tb.
The drive has been formatting for about an hour and it is at 50% done. I think that when I build a new desktop I am going to go with 3×750gb and a Raptor. I havn’t decided on the AMD or Intel yet, the X2 AMDs are nice, but I have heard some Intels are performing better. With AMD coming out with a quad core next year we will see how that compares and where Intel is with their quad core.
