The things that make you go WTF!!!!
I have taken a couple jobs to put extra money in my pocket and one of them was for some friends of mine. While I was doing what the company requested I helped a friend who worked for them with his Dell. Long story short he bought a case and then his machine didn’t work. I am not much of a hardware guy, I can build and do some troubleshooting, but when it comes to something not working I am more the buy a new one type of person.
The board was different from most where you have pins to plug in the power, reset and hdd lights and switches. He may have done something wrong, but I could not get it to work with an extra PSU I had. He wanted a better machine so I told him to just buy a AMD 3400 combo from Newegg and I would install it. He did and I did, and still nothing. I took it home took it apart and tried my other PSU.
I understood that if the power switch was not plugged in and the PSU was it would automatically send power to the board, as I said, not a hardware guy. I then took off the front panel to trace the wires and found out this little silver thing that looked like it was just a decoration on the case was actually the power button pushed in. When I was in their office I tried to push it, but because it was so far in the case it would not work. All that work and something that simple fixes my problem, unbelievable.
While I am not a hardware guy my buddy Josh at Goat in a Tree is. He has worked with hardware for longer than I have used computers and he had no idea what the problem was either. With all the systems both of us have built and upgraded we could not figure out such a simple problem.
